What is in your Paracetamol?

Povidone

Povidone is a water-soluble, fine white powder. It is usually odourless and as a synthetic polymer properties can be changed to meet different requirements.

Potassium sorbate

Potassium sorbate has antimicrobial properties and can be used in the food, pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries to help kill microbes such as bacteria and fungus. This preserves the products to prevent them from going off and prolongs their shelf life.

Purified Talc

Talc, although most commonly associated with talcum powder, is also an excipient added into paracetamol. Talc is a mineral which, when in powder form is white, soft to the touch and free from grit.

Starch

Due to its low cost and many properties, starch is a common ingredient in many drugs, mostly used in tablets and capsules.

Stearic acid

Stearic acid is a common excipient used in the manufacture of pharmaceuticals, mainly as a tablet and capsule lubricant and binder.
