Potassium sorbate
Potassium sorbate has antimicrobial properties and can be used in the food, pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries to help kill microbes such as bacteria and fungus. This preserves the products to prevent them from going off and prolongs their shelf life[1].
Potassium sorbate is a synthetically produced white salt which is both tasteless and odourless primarily used as a preservative[3].
In addition to pharmaceuticals, potassium sorbate is also found in manufacturing other products such as:[3]
Apple Cider (to stop fermentation by preventing yeast)
Baked Goods (to prevent mould, yeast and microbes)
Sunscreen (inhibits yeasts and moulds)
Animal feed such as dog, pigs etc. (preservative to increase shelf life)
